Our barn, our recipes

Cooked in a barn above Silent Pool

This gravy starts the way it did in Mandira's family kitchen in Calcutta: whole spices, toasted and ground the same morning, cream stirred in slowly so it never splits.

We cook in small batches in a 400-year-old barn in the Surrey Hills, then blast-freeze every pot the day it's made. Cooked, then frozen. That order is the whole point.

Palak Paneer, Spinach and Paneer Done Properly

Fresh spinach, soft cheese, and a slow-built base of ginger and onion. Our palak paneer is the dish people order out for, made properly and frozen at its peak so you get it at its best. This is a classic spinach paneer curry: hand-cut paneer folded through a smooth, deep-green spinach sauce, cooked in small batches at our Silent Pool kitchen in Surrey. No shortcuts, no preservatives, and a flavour that holds up against anything on your local takeaway menu.

HOW SPICY IS IT?
Gentle. The palak paneer leans on ginger, garlic, and warm ground spice rather than chilli, so the spinach and cheese stay front and centre. Most people find it mild enough for the whole family. If you like more heat, a pinch of chilli or fresh green chilli on top lifts it nicely.

WHAT'S IN IT (AND ALLERGENS)
Spinach, paneer (Indian cheese), onion, ginger, garlic, tomato, and a house blend of spices. It is vegetarian and gluten free. It contains milk, because paneer is a dairy cheese, so this saag paneer is not suitable for vegans. Spinach brings iron, and the paneer adds a solid hit of protein, which makes it a satisfying meat-free main rather than a side.

READY IN ABOUT 10 MINUTES
Cook straight from frozen, no defrosting. On the hob, tip it into a pan over a medium heat and stir for around 10 minutes until piping hot through. In the microwave, 4 to 5 minutes does it. Prefer the oven or air fryer? Give it about 30 minutes. Stir once or twice so the spinach paneer curry heats evenly.

WHAT TO SERVE WITH IT
Plain basmati, jeera rice, or warm naan all work. A dollop of yoghurt and a squeeze of lemon cut through the richness. Pair it with a dal or a drier sabzi and you have a proper spread with barely any effort.

WHY BUY IT
We have won 11 Great Taste Awards and hold more than 520 five-star reviews, so you are not gambling on dinner. This palak paneer is blast-frozen fresh in small batches, free from preservatives, and delivered UK-wide to your door. Restaurant-quality spinach paneer curry, ready when you are, with none of the fuss. Order the palak paneer your midweek needs.

Good questions

Before your first order

What is palak paneer?
A North Indian dish of soft paneer cheese simmered in a fresh spinach and ginger sauce.
Is palak paneer vegetarian?
Yes - it's paneer (Indian cheese) in a spinach gravy, fully vegetarian, though not vegan as it contains milk.
Is palak paneer healthy?
Yes - spinach is iron-rich and paneer adds protein, making it one of the more nutritious vegetarian curries.
How do I reheat frozen palak paneer?
From frozen: microwave 4-5 min, oven/air fryer 30 min, or hob 10 min. Stir halfway and serve piping hot.
