"We don't churn out a curry. Every dish is cooked the way I'd cook it for my own family, the way my grandmother taught me."

Our Story

Cooked in a converted cowshed, overlooking Silent Pool

What began as supper clubs in the Surrey Hills is now a kitchen sending proper Indian home cooking across the UK. We cook in small batches, with whole spices we grind ourselves and recipes handed down through generations.

Our chicken comes from family recipes rather than a spec sheet: a Delhi butter chicken, Mandira's mother's cashew and coriander murgh from Calcutta, a Goan xacuti built on dry-roasted coconut, and a dum-cooked biriyani.

Complete the Meal

Namkeen, mixed the way Calcutta mixes it

Indian bar snacks are called namkeen, and ours are the savoury mixes, spiced nuts, crackers and crisps that go out with a drink rather than with a meal. Chanachur is the Bengali name for what Britain calls Bombay mix, and ours is built on gram flour sev, split lentils, peanuts and curry leaf rather than on salt. We blend the spices ourselves in the Surrey Hills.

Everything here is cupboard stock rather than freezer stock, so it keeps and it is ready the moment people arrive. There are sweet ones too, including shakarpara, the fried Diwali cookie that is very good with chai.

Good to Know

Questions about our bar snacks

What is chanachur?

Chanachur is the Bengali name for the spiced snack mix that Britain calls Bombay mix. Ours is made with gram flour sev, split lentils, peanuts and curry leaf, and it is seasoned rather than simply salted.

Which of your bar snacks is the spiciest?

The Slightly Spicy Chanachur, despite the name. The standard Chanachur and the Luxury Spiced Nuts are both medium. The crisps and the hula hoops are mild.

Are any of your Indian snacks vegan?

The Spiced Crackers are vegan. The others contain dairy or are not otherwise suitable, so check each product page before ordering.

Do the bar snacks need to be kept in the freezer?

No. Everything on this page is shelf stable and belongs in the cupboard. Only our cooked dishes need the freezer.

Do they need cooking?

No. Open the pack and put it in a bowl. Nothing on this page needs an oven, a pan or a microwave.

What is shakarpara?

A lightly sweet fried Indian cookie, cut into diamonds, traditionally made at Diwali. It is very good with a cup of masala chai.

Which snacks contain nuts?

Chanachur and Slightly Spicy Chanachur contain peanuts, the Luxury Spiced Nuts contain cashew and almond, and the Bombay Mix Burst Chocolate Bar contains peanuts. Check each label if you are buying for an allergy.

What should I serve Indian snacks with?

Chanachur and spiced nuts with a cold beer, or Spiced Crackers with our Tomato and Date Chutney. Add samosas or onion bhajis from the oven if you are feeding more than four.

Do you sell Indian snacks as a gift?

Yes. The Three Chutney and Spice Crackers Gift Set pairs the crackers with three chutneys, and the Picky Bits box brings the snacks and the starters together in one order.

How long do they keep?

Go by the date on the pack. They are cupboard stock, so they keep for months unopened, which is the point of having them in.

Where are your bar snacks made?

They are blended and packed at our kitchen in a converted barn above Silent Pool, near Albury in the Surrey Hills, and delivered across mainland UK.
