Description

The original lunchbox, and still the best one. Two or three tiers of solid brass that stack, clip shut and carry by the handle. A tiffin is simply a stacked set of tins for carrying a whole meal. Brass is the traditional choice: it holds a bright shine with an occasional polish and looks the way these have looked for a hundred years. Naturally antibacterial, no plastic anywhere. Buy the copper if you prefer it to darken with age.

Our barn, our recipes

Cooked in a barn above Silent Pool

This gravy starts the way it did in Mandira's family kitchen in Calcutta: whole spices, toasted and ground the same morning, cream stirred in slowly so it never splits.

We cook in small batches in a 400-year-old barn in the Surrey Hills, then blast-freeze every pot the day it's made. Cooked, then frozen. That order is the whole point.

How is it delivered?

Boxed and sent by overnight courier, dispatched Tuesday to Friday across mainland UK. Nothing here is frozen, so it can sit on a shelf until it is wanted. Collection from the barn is available seven days a week.

Brass or copper, which should I choose?

Brass stays bright with an occasional polish and looks traditional. Copper darkens to a deeper tone over time and most people stop polishing it and come to prefer it that way. Both are naturally antibacterial and both will outlast you.
